OILS AND WAXES
Apricot Kernel (Prunus Armeniaca) Oil*	Apricot Kernel Oil is rich in the essential fatty acids oleic and linoleic. Apricot oil is known for its ability to penetrate the skin (carrier oil) without leaving an oily feel. Moisturising and revitalising properties, great for dry, mature skin. Popular as a massage oil.
Avocado (Persea Gratissima) Oil*	Excellent penetration capabilities making it an excellent carrier of other ingredients into the skin. The traditional ‘beauty oil’ used by the tribal women of Mexico and Arizona. Avocado oil is primarily a monounsaturated oil. In contrast, polyunsaturated oils form greater amounts of free radicals which are associated with rancidity.
Calendula (Calendula Officinali) Flower Oil*	Gentle on the skin, traditional uses include soothing and treating anti-inflammatory skin conditions.
Carrot (Daucus Carota Sativa) Seed Oil	Rich in Vitamin A, supports the health of the skin tissue.
Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride	From Coconut Oil, non-greasy, fast absorbing moisturiser.
Cetearyl Alcohol	Emollient, emulsifi er wax/carrying agent. A safe, premium quality emulsifying wax from palm kernel oil. Forms an occlusive film that helps prevent moisture from evaporating.
Cetyl Alcohol	Emollient, emulsifier, thickener, emulsion stabilizer, viscosity stabilizer and opacifier.
Cocoa (Theobroma Cacao) Seed Butter*	Softens, moisturises and conditions the skin. Derived from Cocoa (Chocolate) tree.
Coco-betaine	A salt derived from the fatty acids of coconut oil. It is used as an emulsifier, thickener, foam booster and conditioner.
Coconut (Cocos Nucifera) Oil*	Quick to absorb, locks in moisture – a massage therapist favourite! Highly saturated fat semi-solid oil derived from the kernels of coconuts. Creams incorporating this oil have excellent emollient properties.
Decyl Glucoside	Made from glucose, extracted from corn. Exceptional cleansing and foaming properties. Non-toxic, Non-irritating and will not block the pores.
Glyceryl Stearate	An emulsifier and emulsion stabilizer. Also used as an opacifying and pearlizing agent.
Jojoba (Simmondisia Chinensis) Oil *	Regenerative, firming and helps prevent wrinkles, a source of Vitamin E.
Macadamia (Macadamia Ternifolia) Seed Oil*	Locally sourced. Moisturises and protects.
Olive (Olea Europaea) Fruit Oil*	Locally sourced. Nourishing and calming on the skin. Assists cell rejuvenation.
Rose Hip (Rosa Canina) Fruit Oil*	Rich in Vitamin C, Smoothes fi ne lines and wrinkles. Has been used to treat skin pigmentation disorders, scars and sunburn.
Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate	An emulsifier that is derived from vegetables binds ingredients together.
Stearic Acid	A waxy, natural acid used to thicken and stabilize creams and lotions. Derived from Palm Kernel Oil.
Sunflower ( Helianthus Annuus) Seed Oil*	Rich in linoleic acid (an essential fatty acid); vitamins A, B, D, and E, minerals; and lecithin. Sunflower seed oil has a light texture and fragrance, is easily absorbed, and soothes, softens and protects all skin types.

Jasmine (Jasminum Officinalis) Oil	Soothing and anti inflammatory for dry, sensitive skin.
Lavender (Lavandula Angustifolia) Oil*	Soothes the skin, provides a relaxing fragrance note.

Arrowroot Extract*	Soaks up the moisture and soothes irritated skin.
Bearberry (Arctostaphylus uva-ursi) Leaf Extract	Powerful skin-lightening and whitening agent with anti-oxidant properties. It effectively inhibits the enzyme tyrosinase that is responsible for the production of melanin.
Black Cohosh (Cimicifuga racemosa) Extract*	Hormone-like action; Helps combat the signs of ageing, particularly brought on by sun exposure.
Bladderwrack (Fucus vesiculosus) Extract*	This hydroglycolic extract of seaweed is a skin conditioning agent.

Meristem Extract is a bioactive natural ingredients that is extrated through a special process from the root of young oak trees. Vitamin A (Retinyl Palmitate)	Supports the health and appearance of the skin. Plant derived.
Vitamin C (Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate)	Powerful antioxidant, assists with evening skin tone and helps brightens the complexion.
Vitamin E (Tocopheryl Acetate)	Promotes cell renewal and skin elasticity. With anti oxidant properties to help prevent the premature signs of ageing. Plant derived.

Aloe Vera (Aloe barbadensis) Gel*	Aloe Vera has signifi cant moisturising, protective and regenerative properties. Helps supports the natural balance of the skin and is ideal for after sun care due to its cooling and soothing properties.
Bentonite (Clay)	Draws impurities for a fresh, revitalised appearance.
Behentrimonium Methosulfate	Derived from grape seed oil this mild conditioning agent detangles, softens and thickens hair.
Cetyl Alcohol	Derived from Palm Oil, enhances product texture and feel giving skin a velvety finish.
Coffee Arabica*	Locally sourced. Exfoliating and astringent properties to improve circulation and skin condition. Provides an enticing, sweet aroma.
Decyl Olivate	An excellent oil-free emollient derived from olives. Decyl olivate control skin hydration levels and restore balance to the complexion.
Dextrin	Sourced from starch the carbohydrate binds and thickens the ingredients.
Ethyl Macadamiate	A mixture of fatty acids from Macadamia Nut Oil, helps smooth the skin.
Ferulic Acid	The antioxidant is obtained from oats and the seeds of brown rice. The acid neutralizes free-radicals and increases protection when in contact with UV rays.
Fruit Acid’s	Help to reveal new skin cells and stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. The peeling action uncovers a fresh, luminous layer of skin. Include; Vaccinium Myrtillus (Bilberry) Extract, Saccharum Officinarum (Sugar Cane) Extract, Acer Saccharinum (Sugar Maple) Extract.
Geranoil	Part of geranium oil, it is an antioxidant that is included in the natural stability system.
Glucose	A sugar that is a part of the antioxidant stability system.
Glucose Oxidase	A natural enzyme that helps to power an anti-oxidant system.
*Glycerin (Vegetable glycerin)**	“Humectant” - Locks in moisture to prevent dryness. A natural vegetable ‘soap’.
Guar Gum (Cyamopsis Tetragonoloba)	Thickening, gelling agent. It is obtained from the seeds of Cyamopsis tetragonolobus, an annual leguminous plant originating from India and Pakistan.
Hyaluronic Acid	This structural component of the skin forms a gel between cells in the skin’s upper and lower layers where it helps to ensure that the skin is adequately hydrated. This moisture retaining film permeable to light and air will prevent the skin to dry out even in low humidity atmosphere.
Hydrolysed Wheat Protein	The protein penetrates the roots of the hair to condition and soften hair. Helps to strengthen the air.
Kaolin (Clay)	Absorbs excess oil and draws out impurities for improved skin texture and colour.
Lactoperoxidase	Part of the antioxidant stability system found in the products.
Luffa (Luffa cylindrica)	A gentle exfoliant, smoothes and softens the skin for a radiant appearance.
Mannitol	Aids in the removal of dead skin cells off the surface, whist smoothing and softening the skin.
Potassium Cetyl Phosphate	An emulsifier that binds water and oils together. Derived from palm oil.
Rice Bran (Oryza Sativa)	Gentle exfoliant, removes dead skin cells to stimulate new cell growth.
Rose Water*	Gentle and soothing, great for sensitive skin.
*Shea Butter (Butyrospermum Parkii)**	Provides deep hydration and nourishment for sensitive skin. A natural wax derived from the Shea Nut.
Sodium PCa	A natural moisture binding agent which helps to bind water in the skin.
Sodium Chloride (Salt)	Natural cleansing and exfoliating properties.
Sodium Gluconate	Has important effects for maintaining the osmotic pressure and volume of exocellular fluid, regulating the acid-base balance in human body and developing the normal functions of the nerves and muscles.
Sodium Linoleate*	Vegetable derived the agent makes up organic soap.
Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate	A surface acting foaming agent, that cleans and refreshes the skin.
Sodium Palmitate*	The cleansing agent forms the natural organic soap in products.
Sodium Stearate	Emulsifying agent, see Stearic Acid above.
Squalene (from Olives)	Principle liquid and emollient found in the human skin, making it bio-compatible with the skin. Ability to retain moisture and nourish the skin. Also referred to as Squalane.
Triethyl Citrate	Derived from Bilberry / Red currant fruit acid, it is used as a deodorising agent.
Walnut -black walnut- (Juglans Nigra) Powder	A seaweed and shell based powder that sloughs away dead skin cells and refines the skins surface.
Waltheria Indica Leaf Extract	The extract calms, whitens and brightens the pigments of the skin.
Xanthan Gum	Soothes the skin and acts as a natural thickening agent, produced by a fermentation process, derived from plants.
Zeolite (Clay)	Draws out impurities from the skin, detoxifying.

Purified Aqua	= HYDRATION, HYDRATION, HYDRATION Restores, revitalises, replenishes and hydrates the skin.

GENERAL TERMS OF REFERENCE
Herbal & Plant Extracts	Sanctum uses medicinal grade extracts at therapeutic levels. These work to activate the natural functions of the body, fight environmental pollutions and stress.
Vitamins	Topically applied vitamins deliver instant nutrition and help prevent premature aging. Sanctum Includes Vitamins A, C and E.
Emollient Oils and Waxes	Supple, lubricating, thickening agents that prevent water loss and have a softening and soothing effect on the skin. Sanctum includes Macadamia Nut, Jojoba, Avocado and Olive Oils.
Essential Oils	Contain the healing, restorative & regenerative powers of plants. As implied by the term ‘aromatherapy’, they have a powerful effect through our sense of smell. Sanctum includes Tea Tree, Rosemary, Lavender, Rose, Ylang Ylang.
Anti-Oxidants	Help slow down the action of free-radicals caused by pollution, ultraviolet light, toxins and other environmental factors. Free radicals attack and damage the skin, resulting in visible signs of ageing. Sanctum includes Vitamins A, C and E, Rosmary Extract and Soy Bean Oil.
Biohyaluronate	Has a repetitive molecular structure that occurs naturally in the skin. Binds water tightly to ‘lock in’ moisture, “Carries” the main active ingredients into the skin (e.g. Vit C. Vit E), permeates the Basal Cell (upper) skin layer to help stimulate the production of collagen & elastin.
Australian Earth Clays	Draw out impurities from the pores and surface of the skin to reveal new skin cells and improved texture and colour. Sanctum includes Kaolin, Bentonite and Zeolite.
Emulsifiers	Combine water and oil to form a stable emulsion (cream). Sanctum includes; Sodium Stearate, Cetyl Alcohol, Glycerol Stearate, Xanthan Gum.
Exfoliants	Eliminate dead skin cells and impurities to reveal fresh, luminous skin. Help accelerate the turn over time of skin cells. Sanctum includes; crushed Walnut Shell, Loofah, Rice Bran, Walnut and Coffee.
Fruit Acid’s (AHA’s)	Alpha Hydroxy Fruit acids help remove the surface skin cells (exfoliating), improving skin texture and colour. Skin is left feeling plump and glowing as the new skin layers are revealed. Some studies have shown these to be the most effective humectants which, when applied to the skin, draw water from the dermis into the epidermis. Sanctum includes; Bilberry Extract, Sugar Cane Extract, Sugar Maple Extract.
Humectants	Humectants help to draw water vapour from the surrounding air and attract it to the skin’s surface. Sanctum ingredients include Bioyaluronate, Fruit Acids, Sodium PCa, Methyl Gluceth 20 and Glycerin.
