Valentine’s Day, like any celebration, means different things to different people. For some, it can mean spending the evening doing something special with a partner or loved one, for others it is the perfect excuse for a self-care night (not that you need an excuse!)

We have put together some ideas that don’t require the help of an event-planner, a small fortune, or that will cost the earth.

Being present is the present

It may sound cliche, but as our lives get busier and often more complicated, spending some quality one-on-one time with someone you love, whether that is a partner, friend or family member, is invaluable and often just the thing we needed.

Special outing

Whether you really ‘believe’ in Valentine’s Day or not, why not take the opportunity to plan a trip you’ve been meaning to. We don’t mean an overseas trip, although that would be nice, rather pack a bottle of wine and some cheese and head to your nearest park or beach and settle in for the evening to catch up and people-watch.

Gifts from your garden

As a very hot Australian Summer is nearing the end, take advantage of the remaining bounty of flowers and foliage from your garden. A homemade bouquet created with flowers from your garden is a lovely, thoughtful gift for someone you love, or simply a gift to yourself to brighten a corner of your home.

Homemade treats

What better way to show someone you love them, than with homemade treats? It is also the perfect excuse to bunker down in the kitchen all weekend and use any food that needs using. The result is delicious chutney, jam or preserves to share the love with.

Donate on behalf of your loved one

Donating on behalf of someone you love or as a treat to yourself is a lovely way to give back to a cause close to your heart and is also a beautiful way to show your love.

Whatever Valentine's Day looks like to you, enjoy the time spent with loved ones, or enjoy the company of yourself and indulge in some self-care rituals.
